Miniature circuit breakers of GO range are suitable for protection from overload and short circuits, and for electric circuit installation’s sectioning.
The items are equipped with two overcurrent releases which are featuring two tripping sensitivities: one to thermic factors, for protection against low value fault currents and current overloads; the other to electro-magnetic factors, for protection against high value overcurrent (short circuits).
The tripping mechanism is of free-trip type, that is, in case of overcurrent, the circuit breaker automatically trips even if the lever is held in close position. In multi-pole devices, the poles coupling and simultaneous action is achieved through both conjunction of operating levers and by mechanism internal connection.
Miniature circuit breakers of GO range are of limitation type as they are constructed for guaranteeing, in case of short circuit, such a short tripping time to considerably limit both the current peak value and the specific energy flowing I2t (see picture 1). In this way thermic and dynamic effects on both circuit breaker and protected circuit are minimized so that damaging of cables and electrical installation apparatus is avoided.
Miniature circuit breakers of GO series are available in a wide range of tripping characteristics, duly calibrated to satisfy any installation’s requirement; these characteristics are identified by letters B, C, D, as per standard EN 60898-1.
The differences among these characteristics are the values of the instantaneous intervention area.
• B CHARACTERISTIC: it is generally used when protecting resistive circuits (loads) and electric apparatus with limited starting currents values;
• C CHARACTERISTIC: it is the most widely used when protecting resistive or limited inductive
circuits (loads) and electric apparatus with high starting currents values;
• D CHARACTERISTIC: it is suggestable for protecting significantly inductive circuits (loads) and electric apparatus (motors) with very high starting currents values.
The rated current of miniature circuit breakers (as per standard CEI EN 60898-1) is the current value fixed by the manufacturer to which it must unceasingly perform at a reference temperature of 30°C.
If temperature is higher or lower than 30°C, the operative circuit breaker’s rated current shall have to be calculated by means of parameters in accordance to table “Derating of rated current according to ambient temperature”.
